Cuestionario sobre el documental “Which Way Home”

Cuestionario sobre el documental “Which way home”

The Haunted House

The Haunted House

It was on December the 26th, in 2001, around 6.00 pm, when three brothers, John, Martin and Christian, with their father, Ethan went sailing to Lake Tahoe. They had an enormous white ship, with a huge flag and wooden deck. While they were sailing, the enginees of the ship suddenly stopped.

They were extremely desperate, they were shocked by the recent event. In order to survive, they had to leave the ship and find a place to sleep over the night.. After swimming for an hour, they saw a microscopic and rare island. As soon as they arrived to the shore, the family saw an abandoned and terrifying mansion and decided to enter.

When they approached the antique place, they noticed that the front black door was opened so they entered. As soon as they entered, they peered the inside of it. The pieces of furniture were covered in spiderwebs. Suddenly, they gazed something moving, after some seconds, they noticed it was a black and horrifying cat. Immediately a grotesque, tall woman appeared. When they saw the ugly being, the familiars ran to the door and tried to escape, however, it was too late, the door was already closed.

The creepy witch ordered the innocent people to follow her, as the relatives were entirely afraid, they followed her. The spooky woman took them to a horrid basement. When the witch was about to leave them alone in the dungeon, John tried to persuade her to let them go and they would leave the island immediately. The old woman was convinced by John, and she let them go with the condition of leaving the island in no more than three hours. The men accepted the offer, and the witch, with her magic, opened the door and let them leave.
All in all, they left the island, however, they spent a disgusting experience.

Essay in pairs

In class of literature, we made an essay in pairs;

Essay writing by Bautista Buljevich, Gonzalo Irazusta & Juan Elia

Essay question: Comment closely on how the protagonist of “ The Prison “ can not escape his destiny.

In the story “The Prison”, the protagonist, called Tommy, had a prison in his mind. In this essay we will comment closely on how he couldn’t escape his destiny.

Tommy was someone who had never taken his owns decisions. Instead other people, for example, Rosa took his own decisions. An example can be “Rosa changed Tony into Tommy” with this quotation, the personna wanted to show that he couldn’t take his own decisions. Rosa had changed Tony’s name to Tommy, without asking Tony if he agreed. Poor Tony couldn’t decide even his name!  His life didn’t have sense,, an example in when he met that little girl. He wanted to catch the girl and that was his only objective in life. “But he was worried he would not know what to say to her” He thought that the girl will end like him, a loser. But she didn’t and Tony was obsessed with that and he was wrong.

Tony, as we have already said, had never taken a decision. Therefore, when he had to take it, he couldn’t. Moreover, the poem said that he was 29, and when you’re 29, you must be mature, but he had not mature at all. The theory of determinism, in this story, can be identified with Tony, on account that he couldn’t take his own decisions because he couldn’t act upon thoughts. He was always doubting about if what he thought was right. In addition, he was locked in his past, he couldn’t forget what he had done wrong before. He considered that destiny was written, and it is demonstrated when he beats off to Texas, to avoid marrying Rosa, he came back and marries her anyway. All in all, he couldn’t control his actions and thoughts in his own life.

He thought that his destiny was going to be the boring as well as now, but a little girl changed his destiny and open his mind.

The league of nations- Bautista Buljevich, Oliverio Llobet & Juana Zufriategui

                      League of Nations

In history class, with Lenny, we watched a video that talked about league of nations. Our exercise, was to answer some questions.

Questions

1- What were the aims of the league?

2- What happened to wilson when he returned to US after signing the treaty of versailles?

3-Why did german immigrants in USA not want to join the league?

4- What economic reason did us give to stay out of the league?

5-How did americans feel about imperialism in europe?

6-Why did poland invade Vilna? Why did the league not act about it?

7- Why was upper silesia an important region for Poland and Germany?

8-How did the league solve the conflict in Vilna?

9-What did the league decide to do Aland island?

10- Why did mussolini invade Greece in the Corfu conflict?

11- Why was the league criticised about the resolution in the Corfu Conflict?

12- How did the Geneva protocol weaken the league?

13-  why did Greece invade Bulgaria in 1925?

14- Why did Greece complain that the league “ seemed to have one rule for the large states    (such as Italy) and another for the smaller ones”.

Answers:

1- The aims of the league were:

  • to discourage aggression from any nation.
  • to encourage countries to co-operate, especially in business and trade.
  • to encourage nations to disarm.
  • to improve the living and working conditions of people in all parts of the world.

2- When Woodrow returned to US after signing the treaty of versailles he had problems. Before the US could join the league, he needed the approval of the congress, and in the USA this was not a very popular idea.

3- The league was supposed to enforce the treaty yet some Americans, particularly the millions who had German ancestors, hated the treaty itself.

4- If the league imposed sanctions, it might be American trade and business that suffered most, so the US ended “losing”.

5- some feared that the league would be dominated by GB and France and would be called to help defend their empires! Many in the US were anti empires.

6- Poland invaded Vilna because. The league did not react because they were not ready to act.

7- The region was ethnically mixed with both Germans and Poles. This was a problem because the Poles suffered discrimination and racism, making them effectively second class citizens, so it was very important because there was confrontation between them.

8- The Poles captured the capital of Lithuania (Vilna), so the league told them to step back. Great Britain and France supported Poland. Poland refused, so the league of nations could not resolve the problem.

9- There was a problem between Finland and Sweden, that involved the territory of the Aaland islands. The league settled that the islands belonged to Finland, both countries agreed.

10- An Italian general named Tellini and his team were murdered in Greece, so Italy occupied Corfu. The Italian leader Mussolini was furious and blame the Greek government for the murder.

11- Because they made the Greeks pay, and this was criticised by many people in that time and many historians such as Zara Steiner that said: “The dispute showed that the weakest of the great powers could get its way when Britain and France agreed to sacrifice justice for co-operation”.

12- There was a decision in the league that if there was any confrontation between two countries they should acude to the league and then what the league decided had to be accepted by both. The league hoped this was going to strengthen the league, but GB refused to sign and instead of strengthen, it weakened it.

13-  Greece invaded Bulgaria because there was an incident on the border between the, in which some Greek soldiers were killed.

14- Greece complained because they thought it was very unfair that smaller states had different rules than larger states.
